Dispute Resolution/Mediation

Dispute Resolution/Mediation

Environmental peacebuilding can offer effective approaches and techniques for resolving conflicts related to natural resources, which can often be a source of tension and violence, by focusing on the shared interests of conflicting parties in natural resources, promoting cooperation, inclusion, and confidence-building measures to build a positive peace. In particular, tools such as water cooperation, peace parks, and environmental conservation can serve as a catalyst for political stability in conflict settings, especially in countries with border tensions. In this regard, M&E can help to assess the impact of these interventions and identify areas for improvement to ensure their long-term success in dispute resolution and mediation efforts in environmental peacebuilding. By monitoring and evaluating the progress and effectiveness of dispute resolution and mediation programs, it is possible to identify successes and areas for improvement, which can inform future initiatives. Additionally, M&E can help ensure that dispute resolution and mediation efforts are inclusive and transparent, and that they are benefiting all stakeholders, including marginalized and vulnerable groups. This approach can be particularly important in situations where environmental conflicts are linked to broader social and political issues.
