The CSSP, Germany and CPRP, Nepal designed “Supporting systemic and participatory mediation approaches within Local Peace Committees” project which has been implemented in Dhading and Rautahat districts during 2012. The overall objective of the project is to support Nepal’s peace process at the local level by capacitating the LPCs of these districts. CSSP and CPRP have identified the LPCs as the important target groups within the peace-building actors. The project is thus focused on giving mediation training to LPC members in regards to specific challenges and needs in the context of inter-community conflict integrating local mediation experiences and giving enough space to practice the related tools. Initiation of this project has enhanced the members’ capacity in conflict resolution and mediation contributing to sustainable peace. Thus, CSSP and CPRP have developed a sustainable and systemic conflict resolution approach to strengthen local capacities for peace in Nepal. The project was implemented during one-year period (January – December 2012) that consisted of four phases; development of mediation curriculum, capacity building training in integrative mediation, follow up on the mediation training and monitoring and evaluation. The project intervention is mainly focused on providing mediation training to LPC members. This external evaluation is the final activity of the project. The objective of the evaluation is to assess the achievement of the intended results in order to inform the donor and the project implementing partners. The project had the following expected results/changes.
