This report is a terminal evaluation of a UNEP-GEF funded project implemented between 2014 and 2019. The project’s overall objective was to improve the effectiveness of efforts to combat crime against rhinos in South Africa’s Protected Area system using forensic-based technologies, data gathering and analysis and data management systems at the national level, as well as through improved cooperation structures and mechanisms at international level, supporting law enforcement efforts along the entire trafficking chain. The evaluation sought to assess project performance (in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency), and to determine outcomes and impacts (actual and potential), including their sustainability.
