Disasters
Disasters are an unfortunate reality that can have devastating consequences for individuals, communities, and entire countries/regions. From natural disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods to human-made disasters like industrial accidents, disasters can leave lasting physical, emotional, environmental and economic scars. Subsequently, disasters may lead to displacement, loss of livelihoods, and social disruption, all of which can contribute to greater poverty, inequality, and vulnerability in affected communities. To effectively manage and mitigate the impact of disasters, it is important to use M&E to assess the effectiveness of disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies and post-disaster reconstruction efforts. M&E helps track progress, identify and mitigate potential risks and vulnerabilities before disasters occur to build more resilient and prepared communities.
